What moves in this card

  • The seal on the quay turns its head now and then and breathes slowly, and the tabby cat on the doorstep does the same.
  • The Shetland pony behind the wall turns its head and breathes, its breath clouding in the cold.
  • Fireworks burst far off in the sky: a rocket climbs, opens into a shower of sparks, and the sparks fall and fade.
  • Three fishing boats rock gently at their moorings, the boat lanterns glow and tremble on the dark water, and pale reflections slide across the harbour.
  • The clock face on the tower glows softly, four street lamps glow, firelight flickers in eighteen windows and warm light spills across the doorstep.
  • Smoke rises from nine chimneys, and snow slips from the roofs and lands in little heaps.
  • Snow falls in three depths, with the odd gust that lifts loose snow along the ground; stars twinkle, a shooting star passes, birds fly over now and then, and frost glints.
